1:1 Meeting Blocks
[B] - Useful
WHAT: 1:1 Meeting Blocks is for every meeting I schedule, I block an equal amount of time for deep, undistracted work in the same week.
HOW: To implement this time hack effectively, I follow these steps:
- When someone requests a meeting, I immediately schedule it.
- After scheduling the meeting, I find an equivalent block of time in the same week and mark it as protected for deep work.
- I maintain flexibility in the ratio (e.g., 1:1 for a one-hour meeting to one hour of deep work, or adjust as needed).
- As my week fills with meetings, I watch the available slots decrease, naturally limiting further scheduling.
WHY: This strategy offers several benefits that can significantly improve my productivity and work-life balance:
- Preserves flexibility in scheduling meetings while safeguarding time for focused work.
- Acts as a natural governor on my available time, preventing schedule saturation.
- Ensures a balance between collaboration and individual productivity.
- Helps me remain responsive to colleagues without sacrificing my own deep work needs.
- Creates a visual representation of my time allocation, making it easier to manage workload.
